September Sunrise

The saddest of sounds:
The robin's song in autumn,
Lamenting summer.

All Change

The sun slow to rise
Robin's aubade heard once more
Heavy dew gleaming

What happened there...?

Know it's a while, but -
Was it really a whole year?
Where did the time go?

It started badly,
But September's treachery
Led to better things.

Didn't jump in time,
Pushed into a new image -
Autumn in Jaeger.

Koto hajime
A return to an old haunt
For a new chapter.

The snow was missing:
Green christmas fills the churchyard.
Nearly took me too!

Slow recovery.
The earth turns; sakura falls;
I get no younger.

But I have A Plan:
A garden to feed us, both
in body and soul.

April's hope cannot
exceed May's promise; sadly,
June cannot compete.

The summer waxes;
A good one at last! ('bout time!)
Long, hot ennui.

Crescendo of work
Takes the fun out of summer
(If 'twas ever there.)

An August heatwave.
The plants repay my kindnesses
A thousandfold.

Here we are again.
Months slip past like beads on wire.
Plus ça change, they say.

Is it that time already...?

The start of term looms.
Now, staring us in the face -
Where did August go?

Too many terms now:
Quirk of the school calendar
Stole away a week.

Really, we've been robbed,
Five weeks just isn't enough
Time away from kids!

One of those weeks

Racing a deadline.
In the middle of the night,
Suddenly, the dawn.

Laptop with ice pack
Even hardware feels the heat;
Must rebuild today!

Non-negotiable.
Miles to go before I sleep,
and the school year ends.
