Summer burned out fast.
Heat fled the scene of the crime.
Autumn sneaked in, wet.

WTF happened here?

Distress of mid-life:
Hopeless short-term memory
Floating on the stream,

My mind unanchored,
Unconscious of competence,
 Past becomes a blur.

Like dew in the sun
Memories evaporate.
 Nothing is secure.

Habits long-practised?
I forget these things exist
Like they'd never been.

Who am I now then,
Now that I can't remember
What I ever was?

Can you believe I completely forgot about this blog? It was only firing up a browser on an old computer that reminded me. Menopause has a lot to answer for, the bastard.

Birthdayku

Brithday week has passed
Staring fifty in the face
All downhill from here.

(It wasn't that bad;
Counfounding expectations,
A good one this year.)

But all is not lost;
I am not yet as old as
I'm going to be.

Hang on to your hats!
Growing old disgracefully
Is the new game plan.  >:-)

Unobtainable

With naught to offer
Still, I want the forbidden.
Crisis of mid life.

September Sunrise

The saddest of sounds:
The robin's song in autumn,
Lamenting summer.

All Change

The sun slow to rise
Robin's aubade heard once more
Heavy dew gleaming

What happened there...?

Know it's a while, but -
Was it really a whole year?
Where did the time go?

It started badly,
But September's treachery
Led to better things.

Didn't jump in time,
Pushed into a new image -
Autumn in Jaeger.

Koto hajime
A return to an old haunt
For a new chapter.

The snow was missing:
Green christmas fills the churchyard.
Nearly took me too!

Slow recovery.
The earth turns; sakura falls;
I get no younger.

But I have A Plan:
A garden to feed us, both
in body and soul.

April's hope cannot
exceed May's promise; sadly,
June cannot compete.

The summer waxes;
A good one at last! ('bout time!)
Long, hot ennui.

Crescendo of work
Takes the fun out of summer
(If 'twas ever there.)

An August heatwave.
The plants repay my kindnesses
A thousandfold.

Here we are again.
Months slip past like beads on wire.
Plus ça change, they say.

Cynghanedd

Tried Welsh meters? Turns
out, Basho was a slacker -
Haikus are not bells!

OK, obscure even by my standards - see "Extreme Welsh Meter" for an interesting read.

Is it that time already...?

The start of term looms.
Now, staring us in the face -
Where did August go?

Too many terms now:
Quirk of the school calendar
Stole away a week.

Really, we've been robbed,
Five weeks just isn't enough
Time away from kids!

Friday, 24 July 2015

One of those weeks

Racing a deadline.
In the middle of the night,
Suddenly, the dawn.

Laptop with ice pack
Even hardware feels the heat;
Must rebuild today!

Non-negotiable.
Miles to go before I sleep,
and the school year ends.

Where are the lambs?

Despite the calm sun,
Wind shakes the camellias;
Lions of March roar on.

Friday, 20 February 2015

Sunset, late winter

Pink-flushed western skies;
February-fill-the-ditch
Cannot quench the sun.

2015

Yay! I get to post
The first haiku of the year!
On a winter's day.

Surely this makes up
for all those haiku last year
that I never wrote?

Foggy day becomes
freezing January night.
I long for spring's warmth.

Until spring there are
jobs in the house to do
like decorating.

Rubbing down paintwork
Difficult when all one wants
is to hibernate :D

Phoning it in

Today the checklist
Says "haiku" - so I haiku,
Though it's a bit blah.

Show up at the page
And see what finds its way out.
It's all I can do.

Feeling a bit grot,
Procrastinating "real" work
Playing at living.

Isn't it always the way?

It's like the buses -
You hang around for days, then
Three turn up at once!

Retroku

A bit of quiet
To record the dawn chorus
Too much to ask for?

Out at four thirty.
In the space of five minutes:
Three cars, two planes.

Saved into my Drafts folder on 28th May.

Slab and grue

Sneezing hugely, I
Reprise Anne's April haiku:
The one about snot.  :(

Searching for photos
In the gmail drafts folder
I find two haiku!

Which just goes to show:
You never know what you'll find
When you declutter.

It's that month again

Daily haiku fail
Weekly is not much better
Think we've lost the plot.

Look on the bright side:
It could be worse; we could be
NaNoWriMo-ers.

Work still to do

Declutter daily
That's what the FlyLady said.
Well, I can but try...

As Yoda said, "Do,
Or do not; there is no 'try'."
So there is still mess...

(Though all is not lost:
Procrastination ensures
There is still haiku.  :-)

Philosophy

Cor, what a question!
"What is truth?"  Now you're asking.
Depends what you mean.

Which truth do you mean?
Objective or subjective?
Can we ever know?
